QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A. PRINCIPAL OFFICERS
I.) VICE-CHANCELLOR
The Vice-chancellor is the Chief Executive and academic Head of the
University. S/he is responsible to the Governing Council for the
Management of the human, financial and material resources of the
University. It is the duty of the Vice-chancellor to see that the
provisions of the laws, the statutes and the regulations of the
University are observed.
Candidate for the post must be a
distinguished scholar with outstanding academic and administrative
records. S/he must possess a Doctorate Degree and be a full Professor
of, normally, not less than ten (10) years’ standing with ability to
provide academic and administrative leadership for the University
community. S/he must possess a proven and demonstrable ability to
attract international research and development grants.
II.) REGISTRAR
The Registrar is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University and
is responsible to the Vice-chancellor for the day-to-day administration
of the University and is, by virtue of that office, the Secretary to
the Council, Senate, Congregation and Convocation. Candidate must
possess at least a very good honours degree and must have had at least
five years’ experience as a seasoned administrator in a tertiary
academic environment as Deputy Registrar.
The Vice-chancellor as
well as the Registrar shall hold office for a one non-renewable term of
five years. Terms and conditions of service shall be embodied in a
contract under the seal of the University.
B. SENIOR ACADEMIC POSITIONS
I.) PROFESSOR
Candidate must possess a Ph.D with at least 10 years’ post-
qualification experience in teaching, research and postgraduate
supervision, as well as a strong record of substantial publications in
reputable international journals. In addition, candidates must have a
good measure of academic leadership and an understanding of university
governance.
II.) ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (READER)
As in (i.)
above but with not less than eight years of university teaching and
research experience with a good record of scholarly publications in
reputable journals. Candidate must also possess some measure of academic
leadership and art understanding of university governance
III. SENIOR LECTURER
As in (ii.) above but with at least six years’ post-qualification
experience in teaching, research and academic administration. Candidate
must also have a good record of publications in reputable international
journals.
