The invention of laptops has indeed made life simple for their users since they are portable and so can be easily taken anywhere depending on their sizes. It was not so years back when everybody only have the desktops as an option. Just as the name suggest, laptops are meant to be placed on the laps. Despite its ease
of use at this position, however recent research has shown that placing a laptop on the lap can pose health risks and concerns. The heat emitted from laptops are capable of causing serious health problems to both males and females (pregnant women). Apart from the normal muscular pains, it has been shown to also pose problems such as burns, bad posture, infertility and risks in pregnancy.
The Effects of Placing Laptop on Lap
(1)Burns
Placing a laptop can result to burns despite the fact that it is not common. It has been reported that cases of severe burns result from the overheating of laptops when placed on the lap. Apart from just the heating, burns can also result from the combustion of laptop batteries. Besides, when a laptop is placed on the lap there are cases of the the venting fan of the laptop being blocked.
(2) Posture problem
The use of a laptop on the lap can encourage posture problem. This can indeed lead to a person developing bad posture. This can result when an individual is operating or using a laptop on the lap for long periods of time regularly. This overuse of laptop on the lap can be injurious to individual's spine and neck. This report is made available by the findings of +Michael Durtnall, a featured chiropractor who estimated that 80 percent of the clients that come through his doors are suffering from pain caused by poor laptop posture.
(3) Infertility
Some researchers at the State University of New York have shown by their studies that the use of laptops on the lap can have an undeniable negative effect on healthy sperm production in males. This is because the heat emitted by the laptop can raise the temperature of the scrotum or testicule beyond the ideal temperature which can lower sperm counts and thus can cause sterility or infertility.
(4) Pregnancy Risks
The heat generated by laptop can be very risky to the health of pregnant women as a result of the radiations emitted from laptops. Despite the research at Radiation Answers, saying that the amounts of radiation that may be emitted are so minimal that there is no cause for concern however, to be on a safer side, doctors advise pregnant women to avoid holding a laptop on their lap or stomach because of the heat that the functioning laptops produce may affect the cells of the baby in the womb.
